The Best Christmas Ever is a program that has allowed us to put our bike building skills to work to give kids the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas. As bike lovers we know what it feels like to wake up Christmas morning and see a bike waiting under the Christmas tree.
As Bike enthusiasts we are also dedicated in making sure local bike events are well supported. Ascent Cycling dedicates time and funds to many bike races and events across Colorado. What can we say; it gives us more of an excuse to be out riding!

Cross Country racing is as old as mountain biking itself. Short track, XC racing, marathon races, and 24 hour races all fit under this massive umbrella. The legends of this discipline are hallowed immortals like Ned Overend and Allison Dunlap, and upcoming superstars like Rebecca Rusch and Jaroslav Kulhavy. We flock to events were we get to rub shoulders with the best in the sport. We test our mettle against our foes: terrain and distance, nature- ours and Mother's. We compete to celebrate our PR's, our team-mates victories, or just cracking off one more lap than we thought we could. Cross-country racing is communal and competitive, nurturing and nasty; it shows us the best in us by asking to persevere through some of our worst.

CROSS COUNTRY RACING
Downhill, Gravity Riding, Freeriding, Big Mountain riding, no matter how you say it you can count on a couple things: High Speeds, Big Drops, and "Are you Crazy" comments from other riders! It's the style we admire in our hero's like Darren Berrecloth and Aaron Gwin. When we slap on our helmet cams, load up for I-35, Trestle Bike Park, Keystone Dropzone, or some other agro destination we all have one thing in mind: Don't let the armor come into play today and for Pete's sake let go of the brakes!!! Scrubbing turns, dusting ferns, and gapping large; DH riding is where the wheat is separated from the chafe in mountain biking disciplines.

About Clay Allison, owner and partner
His concept became Ascent Cycling. He has been working in the industry since the late 80's and has a true love of bikes. Growing up in Northern New Mexico he has a love for the outdoors and all things related to them. Bicycles seem to be the one thing he is truly a "Geek" about. Ascent Cycling is a dream come true for Clay, a daily dose of bikes! When he is not turning a wrench at the shop he can be found turning the pedals over on his favorite stomping grounds. Clay also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, all the more so if combined with cycling! One of his favorite rides in the Springs area is Rampart Reservoir. This 13.5 mile loop is super fast with just enough technical to keep you on your toes. Clay loves the challenge of a go-fast ride or the time spent on a recreational spin.
About Patrick Cross, owner and partner
Patrick loves the cycling industry from top to bottom! Wrenching, fitting, equipping, and just talking bikes makes everyday a fun new challenge. Patrick also holds a degree in Biology/Exercise Science, so the fitness aspect of cycling is a natural fit for this lifelong athlete. The shop is a great excuse to go to clinics and pursue continuing education that make working with bicycles easier and more fun. When not working, Patrick haunts the local trails prepping for XC racing or his next 24 hour adventure.
About Justin Holmes
A downhill mountain bike that's what it's all about in Justin's eyes. Going as fast as you can into a corner and out of a corner, scrubbing every fern. What a rush! Justin says his Dad was the one that got so stroked when he got on a bike for the first time; they stayed up late watching The Collective over and over. ( A little shout out..."Thanks Dad!"). Justin's goal is to open up a shop of his own where people can just come in and talk bikes all day. According to Justin, Patrick and Clay have got to be the best bosses in the world because they love bikes just as much as he does and are will to teach the business as well as the passion. (Another Shout Out..."Patrick and Clay you Rock!"). It is important for staff at Ascent Cycling to continue education in the industry, Justin is not just a mountain biker who works on bikes, oh no, he is also Specialized and Shimano Certified. So if you want to talk Downhill Trails or Bikes, Justin is your man, because he is faster than you! (According to him)

Section 16 and Palmer Loop
Section 16 isn't quite a controlled fall, but it isn't far off, either. If you read up on the trail at a website like mtbr.com, you'll see a couple reviews from dudes intent on showing the Internet how macho they are, saying stuff like "this trail used to be sooooo much harder, you can ride it on a rigid now and not feel a single bump. I rocked it on the unicycle last week, didn't even have to dab," und so weiter, und so weiter. Pay no attention to the meatheads, folks, this trail is properly involving. The Palmer climb to the S16 trailhead is stout enough to require a decent cardio base (or a misguided love of suffering, either way), and the descent, as described above will have you hooting and hollering, or holding on for dear life, or perhaps a little bit of both.

Service is the heart and soul of Ascent Cycling that is why we are committed to providing our customers with unique services like BG Fit. The concept and technology behind Specialized BG Fit is to make the man and the machine become one. Which means that we take the time to fit the bike to you and the unigue riding qualities, not the other way around. Traditionally, the cycling world wanted the riders to conform to the "proper" riding position. But with further review and research not all people are built the same (shocking!) and therefore by adjusting the bike not the rider we have seem less long term injuries and better riding techniques. A win win for everyone!

Patrick Cross, an owner of Ascent Cycling, has been trained and is BG Fit Certified by Specialized. Dr. Andy Pruitt Ed.D developed BG Fit (Body Geometry Fit Integration Technology) to increase cyclists riding experience. It is a philosophy that through proper riding posture and fitting the bike to your unique body needs, "any cyclist will ride faster, longer and in greater comfort, while reducing the chance for injury."

The BG Fit Process consists of five steps to insure your get the most custom riding experience for your body type:
1. Pre Fit Interview: wether you are a novice or an experienced cyclist every fit begins with an interview so we can fully understand your riding needs, physical history and desired goals.
2. Flexibility Assessment: This is not an assessment to see if you can touch your toes this is just a tool to give us an accurate illustration of your physical attributes (foot structure, knee position, spinal curve, shoulder extension, hip flexion and leg length) and..well..your flexibility.
3. Side View: by assessing the side view of your riding position we are able to configure and adjust your bikes seat height, handlebar height, stem length and cleat position to deliver the correct neutral position to give you the most powerful and comfortable riding experience.
4. Front View: Viewing how you ride from the front gives us the proper view point to optimize your hip, knee, and foot alignment. By maximizing the squareness of the saddle and the placement of your shoes and peddles we will be able to align your lower body for greater balance, performance and power.
5. Follow Up: We can only do so much in a bike stand. We want you to be able to feel the difference after your BG Fit. That is why we reach out and make sure that all adjustments we made are working for you. About a week after your visit Patrick will reach out to discuss the effectiveness of how your riding your bike and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
